An Omaha man who was convicted of murdering a 2-year-old girl will not face jail time in the death of her 4-year, 10-month-old sister.

Prosecutors say a judge ordered Richard A. Gossett, 61, to pay $1.8 million in damages to the family of the girl, who disappeared in 2008.

Gossett is being held on $3 million bond in the case, according to court records.

    Gannett has pleaded not guilty.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

The Omaha World-Herald first reported the news.
